Kim, thanks for the input.
I wonder if the 4/sq-ft system for corn is based on an early variety ? Others
as well have responded that this spacing does not allow the corn in the center
to develop well. Then again, in my 2'x3' plot, 16 plants would be around the
edges, and 8 would be in the center. If I get 1 good ear per outer plant, and
the inner plants only helped to cross-pollinate, I would be content.

The cantaloupe seeds are already sitting over the fridge in a warm cabinet.
Temp range is always 65F-75F, lately 70F-75F. The seeds just sit there.
I wonder if they are rotten now that 3 weeks have passed ? I only tried to
germinate 4 seeds, because ultimately I only need 2 plants. Maybe I need to
start more seeds. Does anyone have any experience germinating cantaloupe
seeds ?
How long do they typically take ?

Your soil is clayey... mine is brick :-). Seriously, after amending it isn't
too bad for most things, but tends to be very alkaline so I add quite a bit
of sulpher and peat moss. But, if Celery didn't do well for you in these
conditions, it probably won't do well for me either. I think I will avoid
celery.
