Re: celery question

I live in the San Fernando Valley and have grown celery with great success,
but for us it's a winter crop, not spring. Burpee puts out a California
planting guide that's always worked for me (although sometimes I stretch it a
little with variable results!). It says we can plant celery in August,
September and October and then again in January and February. So, you missed
it! Lots of things grow best here in the winter. The time for head lettuce
is over and leaf lettuce only until April. Also things like radishes,
turnips, etc. I never had any luck until I followed the Burpee guide and grew
them in the winter. You can pick them up for free at nurseries that sell
their seeds. It's a one page "Planting Guide", usually on a pad hanging near
the seeds. Good luck with your gardening. My work has kept me from growing a
winter garden this year, but I'm hoping I can get around to it pretty soon.
