Hi, Fellow-gardeners:
This year I encouraged our chickens to scratch around in the garden
(I usually feed them on the other side of the house). They've done
a great job keeping the ground cultivated. I can see I'm going to
have to cover
the seeded squares with (Mel's) wire cages but they've been very kind
to the seedlings I've transplanted and the nursery 6-pack flowers
and chard I put in in February. By the way, the Bright Lights (silverbeet)
chard is really beautiful! I'm very happy with it!
The hummingbirds are sure keeping me busy - I'm making 3 quarts
of nectar every 4th day! They're here year 'round where I
live and on a
busy day, I count 17 at my 3 feeders.
On Sunday, I saw my first oriole this spring, the male: I haven't seen his mate yet but she'll be around. They're happy with the hummingbird feeders and seem to manage fine as the feeders have perches. Most years we have 2 nesting pairs . . . I just love this stuff!
My tomato seedlings go in the ground this weekend . . .
Happy gardening!
Mary
