Re:blacklight
I love the idea of looking for hornworms and other stuff in the
garden with a blacklight...better yet, so does my husband, who is a NG
(non-gardener). Although, one of the jobs we do together in the garden
is pick these ugly green guys. Now, a strange as it sounds, we can't
wait for tomato season.
My husband and I own our own carpet cleaning business. And the
best thing to inspect a carpet for urine is none other than the
blacklight. It's true, there's lots of silly little toy blacklights out
there. You have to hold them really close to see anything. If you're
going to really invest in a blacklight, get a good one. If you have a
relationship with a reputable carpet cleaner, talk to them about it. Or
e-mail me privately and I could look it them up for you.
I'm new to this list, but have been enjoying lurking for a while.
I guess you could say I do a modified square foot garden. We live on a
3/4 acre lot and about 1/4 of it is veggie garden. I till these areas
that are all sandy soil (by the way) and then mark off squares of
different sizes. In those squares, I plant the different crops (paying
attention to companion planting and where I had stuff last year). I
space them closer than recommended on the package, and place them in a
staggered formation all over the square, never in a row. And I just have
to say, I love this list. In the short time I've been subscribed, I'm
already considering: worms for eating compost, no-till method, attract
more birds, raised beds, supports of conduit, and flourescing hornworms.
WOW... isn't gardening great. Oh, I almost forgot to ask, has anyone
seen the black hornworms? Anyone know why they're black? Just
wondering!
By the way, I'm bummed out you guys are talking about eating
tomatoes and I haven't even been able to start my seedlings yet.
