The easiest most effective method to keep deer from a garden is to sprinkle
human hair cutting around the perimeter. Go to a barber shop and ask for
their floor sweepings. Or, if you cut hair at home, save it all.
What I haven't determined is how long it works. Duration seems to be a quite
a few weeks but related to rainfall. A more scientific test is needed to
determine duration of protection. This method may work for other animals, also.
I learned this from local deer hunters. I thought it was nonsense until I
tried it around some shrubs the deer were eating. I live smack in the middle
of a 2000 acre game preserve with herds of deer everywhere.
