Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Buckets may be a little hard to come by this year because of the real or
imagined threat of 2000. I am doing some freelance work for a bucket mfg
and they said normally they grind up all their 'oops' and remfg them. But
this year and last, they have a waiting list for them!
But check restaurants and r supply stores. I buy olive oil in big gallon
tins and they make great planters (very colorful designs) for herbs. I'd
think an Italian restaurant may have something similar they would sell for
a small price. Buckets come in the most unlikely places. A hotdog stand
usually gets pickles in 5 gallon buckets, and tho they smell like vinegar
brine a long time, they are usually free. If you have even more room and
want larger containers, check out the feed dealers in your area. Often they
sell molasses 'licks' for cows in big 25 gallon tubs, and will resell the
tubs for around $5. (Ranchers bring back a used tub and don't have to pay
for the next one.)
If you can get these with their lids, I've seen them make great earthworm
bins. Buried all but 3" in the ground with the bottoms cut out, the worms
are quite cozy and happy living in them. (martha)
