Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Unless your ground is solid rock, you would be surprised how small a pocket
you need to plant grapes. As long as there are spaces between the rocks
where the roots can go, the vines may surprise you. They actually do best
it the soil isn't excessively rich - some varieties are nitrogen hogs and
feeding them makes them go to vegetation and have no fruit. I'd say plant
them in the ground and just keep them mulched well so they have regular
moisture. For that matter, some vineyardists deliberately plant their vines
by rocks and train the vines over the rocks to let the vine get the extra
heat the rock stores during the day. You may actually have an ideal
vineyard site.
