Hi guys,
Rodale's Companion Planting book suggests that garlic is a good companion
for tomatoes, eggplants, and cabbages, or as a border planting.
It, and other alliums, are said to be negative influences on peas, beans,
and other legumes.
Nothing seems to be especially for garlic, which is a robust individual more
known for helping than needing help....
A circle of garlic around the bases of fruit trees is supposed to be of
benefit, and there is Lon's hip suggestion that garlic helps roses; indeed,
the companion book to Carrots Love Tomatoes is Roses Love Garlic, both by
Louise Riotte....of course, unless you do grow roses for the hips, you may
think of this flower-vegetable mixing as some sort of heresy.....no protests
from the plants involved are on record, though...:-)
Frank---in a garlicky rollicking frame of mind....because it is seed
starting time!
