Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Gents, Ladies,
I was amused by the reference below to the Canary Islands being in the
cool section of Victory Garden. If you want a cool climate take a look
at Scotland some 700 plus miles North. (Or where I used to work in
North West Siberia).
By the way, most of Britain's, if not most of Europe's seed potatoes are
grown in Ayrshire on the West coast of Scotland.
Regarding container potatoes - this is the same question as sqare foot
gardening. Kennebreck are large potatoes and are crowded in too close
at one per square foot - however much you pile mulch on them. On the
other hand, Lineketas Delikatas are small and can be sown at one per
square foot no problem.
This year I am only growning seven varieties of potaoes. The smaller
ones - Edzell Blues, Arran Victory and Belle de Fontenay are all
suitable for small barrel or stacked car tyre planting - just keep
vertically piling on car tyres (or one per sq ft in the ground). The
bigger potatoes like Kennebreck require bigger - 55 gal drum size
barrrels (or a square about 15 - 18'' each).
By the way, most of Britain's, if not most of Europe's seed potatoes are
grown in Ayrshire on the West coast of Scotland.
And no I don't cut my potatoes either.
Regards
Brian
''This past Saturday, I watched Victory Garden on PBS. Recently, they
have added a cool section to their show. Special guests take short video
trips to places around the world to focus on some type of gardening.
This past week, the focus was on the Isle of Jersey, located in the
English Channel. While the focus was on their early spring vegetables,
their early potatoes were the star of the show. ''
