Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Greetings,
I am mixing up
several batches of The Perfect Soil for the Perfect Garden from Mel's Square
Foot Gardening book.
Unfortunately I only
had enough wood ashes for my first batch.
Does anyone know if
there is a substitute for the wood ash that I can purchase at a Garden Supply
store?
I heard someone say
Potash, but I thought that was for raising the Potassium level of the
soil.
I've read that "wood
ash can neutralize the soil making it more alkaline. The same as ground
limestone does but not quite as dramatically."
Are the wood ashes
in Mel's recipe used to raise the Potassium level or balance the pH
level?
If I can substitute
the Potash, what amount should I use to equal the 2/3 cubic foot of wood ash
that is used in the recipe?
Thanks for any help
you can give.
John
