Hi everyone- Boy it is hard to believe it is mid
May already- ! Has anyone ever tried growing purple tomatillos? I bought a
good sized one today a the nursery and I wondered if I would grow it up a
trellis just like a regular tomato or if it would do better in a container- like
a determinate- bush--not much info on the label. Made my mouth water tho
and just had to have it- also bought a peach tomato and am anxious to taste
that.
Saw several large hanging baskets filled with pear
tomatoes and am wondering if anyone has had any luck growing cherry and
such w this way- am running out of trellis and have room to hang
something - Hope everyone is having fun.All new vegies in the beds now-
Just found out the New Western Sunset Garden Book
changed our zone form 9 to 14 due to some inercoastal currents or something I
still don't quite get. The weather is the same- they are just classifying us
differently. Odd to be a 14 after being a 9 for all these years! The nurseries
haven't caught on yet and don't seem to know much that will grow in zone 14. "
Zone 14? Where's that?"
The plants still think it is zone 9 and we all that
live here in the hot Sacramento Valley know that what it really means is
-"full sun doesn't really mean full sun here unless you only mean morning sun or
part sun, or you mulch and water heavily ,are above 1500 feet above
sea level or are talking native plants that can take drought".
I feel oddly special being zone 14 now.Not sure
what that means yet but I will just keep reading I guess. New book is
glorious by the way- got it for my BD -Kitty now a ripe 43 and getting
riper.
