Speaking of garlic, I was at Home Depot, of all places, and got 4 garlic bulbs
to plant. They're sprouting now and looking quite healthy (even after a run in
the garlic had with a rogue squirrel). But now, I have a really silly series
of questions. (There may be no silly questions, but I'm thinking these are
really close!)

1. Why did I plant garlic? I mean I planted an entire head. It was full
size. Will each garlic plant produce one head or more than one? If it's only
one, it seems strange to plant an entire head just to get one entire head.

2. How do I know when it's ready? Will it be like the onions? I pull when
the green part has died? (And incidentally, are shallots ready at that time,
too?)

3. You mentioned your garlic is on its second sprout -- what does that mean?

4. Can I expect any garlic this year? I planted in the spring instead of last
fall.

Ok, I think that's my series of silly garlic questions.
