Found some notes I took while visiting my Uncle years ago. His putting the tomatoes out in June stemmed from the fact that he lost 2 plantings early in his gardening career from killer frosts here in Mass that occurred in mid to late May. He thought June was safe and didn't think he lost much time for the plants to produce that way. I will say that he used to and I still do have quite a few green tomatoes at the end of the season, but these are collected and turned into green tomato relish. mmmm mmmm.
