Suggestions for container gardening?
Hey everybody,
It's been ages since I posted, but here goes. I'm currently renting a
little house tucked back in the woods, and I mean really tucked. Even
the dog kennel is naturally shaded. So my only viable (literally)
gardening is to plant stuff in containers out on the little (2nd story)
deck in front. I did that last year, but the southern heat combined with
my busy schedule resulted in an unfortunate paucity of water for my
innocent plants.
So that brings me to several questions: first, does anyone have any
suggestions as to a planting mix that would retain water better than the
forest top soil I used last year (just add a bunch of peat moss,
maybe?). Second, does anyone know of a good automatic watering system
that would water various large pots instead of a whole 4x4 square? I
thought of using an irrigation hose, but in the time it would take to
turn that off and on I could just as easily water everything by hand.
Also, wouldn't a soaker hose drip all over everywhere between planters?
Anybody ever taped up the sections dangling in the air like that?
Oh well, I'm sure some people on the list have some experience container
gardening and can help me out. So thanks, hopefully, in advance :)
Happy gardening!
