You're right.  Tell her to contact her county agent for recommendations of 
varieties.  She'll have to cope with the altitude (high), strong winds and 
a cold winter.  An excellent book on gardening was written by a woman in 
the Fort Collins area. Buy it for your friend as a gift.  It's "The 
Undaunted Garden" by Lauren Springer (she's also a garden columnist for The 
Denver Post).  Another book, by Herb Gundell, is "A Gardener's Guide to 
Rocky Mountain Gardening."  Springer's book is regarded by most as
