Well, I'm no expert, but I once grew a patch of green bell peppers next to a patch of "Anaheim" or what is now called New Mexican mildly hot peppers. I got small skinny bells with a very bitter flavor and huge Anaheims that tasted very good, but a lot milder than I expected. I guess it depends on which characters you want for your plants :-) I personally would separate them after my experience.
