Distance between beds

This is my first time trying to post a message, so if I have done it wrong
please tell me what to do.
I am also new at this "square foot gardening" business.
I have ordered the book and the tapes, but I haven't received them, yet.
I will have to make raised beds (the soil here at Harper, Texas is
extremely rocky) and I would like to know the recommended distance between
beds, trying to keep it at a minimum, yet still allowing for some comfort
while working. I am in my sixties and comfort is getting to be more and
more desirable.
Also, is it possible to have a different ph level in the different beds?
