How about measuring out a pint of water (= 1 pound) and then seeing how much
fertilizer you need to balance it. You can *make* an adequate scale for this
purpose using a lever and fulcrum that are probably lying around the house
somewhere. 2.5 ounces is approximately 1/6 of a pound. Be sure to take the
weight of the measuring cup into account. (You can do this by pouring the
water into a coffee can and then using an identical coffee can to hold the
fertilizer.)
