Around a raised bed I have tried Buckwheat, but it got too tall and
one could not walk on it. I also tried grass seed but it was not
unusual enough for me and I didn't like hauling the lawn mower between
the beds.. I finally settled with perennial purple clover. Once it
gets going and is thick enough it can be walked on. And it improves
the soil.
