I'll admit I did plant mint last year, and I payed for it this year. I knew it was an "agressive" plant, and by this spring I was pulling mint out 2 feet away from where it was planted. I'm going to rip it all out (that bed needs to be boxed in anyway) but I want to know if I can possibly replant any of it. I have heard ideas about planting invasive things like mint in their own container, then "planting" the container in the garden. An example would be to plant the mint in a 12" or lager pot, then plant the pot (with the rim still slightly above ground level) in the garden. Is this really going to control the mint, or just slightly delay the inevitable spread? Could the bottom of the container be open if it was sufficiently deep? What would be sufficiently deep? I'd really like to be able to have a variety of mints in my herbal garden without having to isolate each plant from any other living plant by 4 feet of concrete/brick/wood. :-) Cheers, Nancy Northern Utah, USDA Zone 4 nancyr@cc.usu.edu *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
