Molly, one foot candle is about 700 watts per square foot (I say "about"
because it's actually wavelength dependent). Please use this information
carefully, because the designation "40 watt bulb" means the bulb
consumes 40 watts, not that it deposits 40 watts of energy on every
square foot of your plants.
