First, is composted horse manure a good thing to use as a mulch for weed control? I have been using it but now it looks like my plants are starting to react badly from it. Any ideas? Second, I heard that you should never apply mulch closer than one inch from the stem of the plant...is this so, and if it is what is the reason?
