Re Asparagus, I am buying a house after 19 years as a condo-er and certified boat bum. My Maine roots seem to be exerting their genetic devilment, demanding that I plan a garden for next year. I have 4 sq ft gardens in a pea patch (normal stuff.) My question for now is: is it appropriate to raise asparagus in raised beds made of old tires, 2 high? My concerns are: 1; will the stretched tires provide enough diameter for the roots to spread. 2; Will the black tires absorb too much heat for the roots to tolerate. Here in the Seattle area we have terribly wet seasons and past experiences with Asparagus seem to mandate raised bed. Thoughts? et al.
