Red plastic mulch and too cold for peppers?

I read in "Kitchen Garden" that this is very good for tomatoes and
peppers, as it reflects the sun and retains heat.   Regarding the
peppers that aren't growing yet because of the cold, does anyone suggest
that I take the peppers back inside until the first week of June?  I
don't want to lose them, and someone on the list suggested that it will
stunt their growth if I leave them out in the cold any longer.
