<< Second, we also planted two big planters of potatoes on March 11th. They
are gorgeous plants and have had unopened blooms for a couple of weeks
now. We can't find anything about when the potatoes are ready to
harvest. Does anyone know how to tell either by looking at the plant or
by length of time since planting? I'm just dying to see how they turn
out but don't want to harvest them too early. Suggestions?

After they flower is a good time to sneak out new potatoes. Usually I dont
dig them untl the vines die a natural death in the fall. I like to put in a
bunch of extras if I have room just so I can have a lot of the little tender
ones. SOOOOO good roasted, cut in half or quarters for salad, and just plain
boiled and buttered with seasoned salt and fresh pepper....Oh, stop this is
torture, I am starving!!!!
My friend and I did up 7 gallons of strawberiies today, 40 8 oz, jam jars and
about 20 freezer bags. Was a good girl and didnt stuff too mant of them in my
mouth! But I cant wait for the garden to start producing, I am lusting after
those first juicy beefsteaks. Theres a good news group for those of you who
put up your garden goodies, callled rec.food.preserving. Lots of good
recipes (great sausage ideas for us omni's) and you can ask for stuff you are
looking for. Just a thought...
