Best garden book for small vegetable gardens?

There are so many expensive gardening books out there.  Aside from Mel's
book,  what book would you choose if you could buy just one gardening
book this year?  I'm looking for a book that focuses on vegetable and
herb gardens, but includes enough photographs to keep me motivated.  I
want something that's informative without being dull.   But I also don't
want a Martha Stewart-style coffee-table tome.
