Hey all! We (my mother-in-law and I) have a book on growing bags. When we decided to do a garden and went to Hastings to look at books on gardening we came across the grow bag method and Mel's book. At the time we just bought Mel's book because you can't do everything in a grow bag. We read the section on grow bags at Hastings and came home and decided to experiment with one grow bag with two patio tomatoes in it. They are doing beautifully! To date, they are the only ones with baby tomatoes on them though our square footers aren't far behind and full of blooms. We went back and got the book and now have a grow bag with 3 eggplants. It really is simple and we plan to dump the soil into our compost pile at the end of the season. I didn't know you could do lettuce that way, but will try it in the fall since it's too hot here now. The grow bags have less problem with pests than our square foot garden as the bag keeps all of the ground pests away (at least so far). Give it a try! We love it! *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
