RE rose dieback

Tia,
Some more on rose dieback. On pruning off some of the dead growth, we noticed
hollow canes. We pruned a little furrher and discovered some type of insect.
We're trying to figure what to do. Nuking the rose bed would zap birds
, earthworms, and such. No nuke, no more roses?
We'll post any further developements. Advice appreciated.
