Catharine,
Hi again! I did use wall-o-waters (on about 11 of the 40+ plants) so
I have a major headstart over most of my gardening neighbors, but with
being up here in Missouri, our weather is just too cold for too long to
get our tomatoes out much earlier than mid-March/April even with the w-o-w's.
I really like using these things, but oh, they are such a pain to fill with
water and plant inside, don't you think? Really strains my back! :)
Actually, I was considering leaving one w-o-w on one plant just to see
if you really can leave them on all summer long in our humid hot August
heat, but in the end, I ended up removing them all. I just can't bear
losing even one plant (gee, that's sad, isn't it?). ;) By using the
w-o-w's, I was able to get my tomato plants in much earlier than had I
not used them. And I did notice last night that I have several tiny
tomatoes growing on my plants now (blossoms are taking hold!) and since
a few are early varieties, perhaps I will have tomatoes by June! Also,
I have 3 Rosa Bianca eggplants in w-o-w's (I've never grown eggplants
before) and I noticed today that two of them have flowers on them! I'm
not sure when I should remove the w-o-w's tho. These plants seem so
reliant on warm weather, and our evenings still get pretty cool at night.
I am thinking I might leave them on until after memorial day at least.
Any thoughts on this?
