I grow all my carrots in containers, so I don't have to sift the ground! I use a half whiskey barrel, fill with potting mix, and sow a thick amount of carrot seeds. Then, you thin the tiny carrots, using them for tempura or salads or whatever. By the time you have mature carrots, you have enough room in the barrel and you've enjoyed carrots for quiet a while.
