Tiny Beets!?!

I live in Northern California (not far from Sunset Books) and am
wondering about my beets. I planted a square of them from seed in
mid-march. They claim to be 55 days to maturity. Well, so far the are
tiny. They are maybe 3/4 of an inch in diameter.

If I leave them will they grow larger OR has our early hot weather (days
in the 80s for the past several weeks) ended their growth.
