If you are in or near a metropolitan area that has a leaf cleanup , tree
trimming program , park maintenance, etc...... there is probably a municipal
waste site where you can get truck loads of organic material, for free or
cheap.
I know that Sacramento, CA and Philadelphia, PA have such as do many other
cities across the country. Just make a few calls and you can find some
great resources with an endless supply.

New to this list and I live in the mountains of western North Carolina;
zone 6. I am an organic gardener with about a thousand square feet ,
including paths and raised beds for vegetables, flowers, and herbs. I am
planting by the moon signs this year. I am an avid composter, and can't say
enough about it. I also have orchards for berries, and fruit and nut
trees, as well as additional flower/ beds and borders.
