Also, did I wait too long to plant? I just put in my garden which consists of:
collards
kale
lettuce
spinach
radishes
scarlet runners beans
blue lake pole beans
mustard
spinach mustard
chard
butternut squash
zuchinni
potatoes-reds, purples, golds
Tomorrow I'll put in some tomato plants. I'm also going to put some peppers
on the perimeter that gets more sun than the rest of the squares.
All of this is planted in a spot that gets more shade than I'd like.
(Afternoon and evening sun) Last year the plants that were "warm weather"
didn't do very well, but the cool weather crops, lettuce, collards, etc.
actually did better. Carrots didn't even do anything...so I decided to go
with what was more successful...hence all the greens. (That and I have a
large iguana and a small iguana and may have another large iguana joining
the crew so I'd like to have food for them.)
Usually I plant in April, but we had frost as recent as a few weeks ago
here in the Pacific Northwest. Is it hopeless that these will do much
because it's already May? Right now I do have a remay cover over all of it
(we've suddenly had WARM weather) and make keep it up for awhile just for
safety sake...except on the tomatoes and peppers when I plant. The tomatoes
I know will do well because two years ago I planted them in the same area
and they thrived.
Take care,
