The following was inadvertently sent to Richard,. instead of the entire
list. SORRY!

Several years ago I did a study on the commercial possibilities for Shallots
and decided that here in the wet/mild Puget Sound area they wouldn't pay.

Shallots need to be planted in the fall. I was assuming 2-1/2" spacing all
around in a VERY rich environment. Shallots, as with any allium, need LOTS
of nourishment and need to be on a five year rotation program to prevent
disease.

I would suggest a spacing of 16/sq-ft and an application of lots of manure
and, if possible follow in the spaces that you used for  peas, as they are
done by mid summer and add nitrogen to the soil
