Re: Germination rates
I tried something I read in the local newspaper two years ago with my
carrots. I put the seeds in a moist paper towel, folded it over, rolled it
up, put it in a ziplock sandwich bag, stored it on the top of my
refridgerator and checked them daily. After a few days (don't remember
exactly how many) they sprouted. I planted the sprouts and the carrots
were fine. I did plant two or three per hole in case they didn't survive
the transplant. I remember having to thin them quite a bit though. I also
tried it with cucumbers, beans and squash to get a head start on the
growing season. I didn't get started early enough this year to try it but
may try it for my fall carrots and peas.
Hope this helps,
Norm
