A tip for all of you who have had trouble with seeds that have fairly long
germination times and also has shallow planting requirements. (such as
carrots, parsnips, celeriac, etc.):
1. Cut a square of carpet 11 1/2" square for each sq. ft. that you are
planting.
2. Plant the seeds normally, but add 2-3 seeds per spot, to assure at least 1
will germinate in each desired location.
3. Place the carpet squares - pile up - over each planted square.
4. Soak the carpet squares completely, each day.
5. Check under the carpets at least once a day - as soon as you see sprouts -
remove the carpet and continue to water as needed.
This technique will ensure a reliable stand of those 'hard to germinate'
vegetables.
From a long time lurker.
