Unknown Insect

I went out to look at my garden and i saw one of my cherry tomatos (the
fruit itself) covered with what looked like rust. Putting on my glasses so
that I could see more than a blur, I saw that it was a closed packed herd
of little bugs.
Each one looked a lot like a small (1/10 scale) lady bug, until I got out
the Heavy Duty Spectacles. Then it was clear that there were no bettle like
wing covers. But they -were- nearly hemispherical, six legs, orangish with
black spots running symetrically up both sides and a black Thorax and head.
Sounds like small lady bugs, right.8-)
I suspect that, since I can see no wings, they are larvae of something. I
put them in a jar with a few tomatoes and leaves in case they turn out to
be beneficials.
I don't find them in my little book (I need a bigger book), anyone
recognise them?
