Hello Mark,
I'm not an organic gardener...<Gasp, Cough, Wheez, Your babies will die--Fret not I don't have any!> My father worked for a chemical company and was a professor of agronomy at several universities and a consultant to a number of underdeveloped countries. I apply chemicals according to his advice: "Read the label and follow the directions." All chemicals that are available to the general public these days are safe when used according to the directions. There should be a support group for gardeners who use chemicals---"Hello, My name is Kathy. I use Round-up, Weed-Be-Gone, Malathion, Seven, Poast, and a variety of systemic stuff on my roses and ornamentals. Shame on me...I need help!"
>My query to members of the group is, how safe is roundup---
Roundup will kill anything that comes in its contact, be careful not to get any on the leaves of the plants in your garden.
