Yes this is a can of worms, and I will try to restrain myself!
What do you expect Monsanto to say about the safety of this
product......after all they want to make the most money they can and don't
care who they hurt in the process.
Please do not use Roundup in your garden or anywhere. Common household
vinegar is an effective weedkiller and far less harmful to anything or
anybody. It is squirted directly on the plants/leaves etc...... and very
little if any goes into the soil as long as it is not poured on the plant.
You can even add a bit of salt to the vinegar for persistent weeds in non
"growing-bed" areas. I have used this along walkways bordering ornamental
beds and vegetable beds and had no damage at all to the landscape plantings
or anything in the raised beds.
It may take a couple of applications......or more with the rhyzomatous
grass you mentioned.
Direct your spray ! as vinegar and salt solution will severely damage all
that it is sprayed on.
It is cheap . It is effective. It is safe. There is always an
altenative to poison for profit.
Most grasses do not like acid soil.... You could also try spreading oak
leaves on the paths or around the edges under the newspaper to make the
soil where the grass is more acid and less hospitable.
