Vertical Trellis Spacing

Does anyone have experience or advice on the spacing of vertical
trellises? I have 4' wide raised beds in which I planted mostly vine
crops (tomatoes, cukes, cantaloupes, pole beans, etc.). I started to
build trellises out of 3/8" rebar inserted into pre-drilled holes along
the wooden raised bed frame, with bamboo cross-supports lashed across the
tops and 6" spaced nylon netting. I used the plant spacing recommended
in Mel's book. My concern is that with the close spacing (there is a
trellis traversing the raised bed about every foot along its length) some
of the crops will be shaded out by others.
