Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
If anything, square foot gardening is an offshoot of the three sisters,
which Europeans found in use when they 'discovered' the Americas.
The three sisters are corn, pole beans, and pumpkins/winter squash....grown
in hills, the squash vines run along the ground and create a barrier
deterrent to raccoons; the corn grows the pole for the beans to climb on;
and the beans help fix some nitrogen in their roots.
Nutritionally, beans, corn and squash, with a bit of wood ash, provide very
nearly a complete diet.
Thus the Three Sisters complement each other, both in the garden and on the
dinner plate...:-)
Here's a website to start you off....

Frank---part Cherokee, he will plant a Three Sisters patch this year with
Bloody Butcher corn, pole beans and pumpkins still to be determined....

what exactly the veggies were but it had corn as the center plant with
vining beans or peas climbing the stalk of corn. I believe the base plant
was squash, not sure though. Anyone else fsmiliar with this method?? JessM
