Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I built a raised Asparagus bed of std concrete blocks, ~40" wide which, with
the holes planted, is about the max to which a tall man can comfortably
reach the center of the bed to weed and/or harvest.
Unless the holes are left unplanted, a 4'sq inside dimension will be a major
pain in the......... (ill in the term appropriate to your cultural
circumstance.)
Scrap 2X4's, laying flat and interlocked work great!!!!!!
