Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this list and thrilled to find this discussion! I started doing
square foot gardening several years ago when I lived in a typical residential
neighborhood with a typical tiny yard <g>. We moved into a larger place a
couple of years ago, but I just got back into gardening this spring - and
even though the yard here is much larger, the majority is shaded with trees
and I'm going to continue using the SF method in the one sunny area I have to
raise vegetables.
Quick question - does anyone have one of those "compost tumblers" that you
add stuff to and turn every few days? I got this one from Gardener's Supply
Company about four years ago, but haven't used it in a while. I'm looking for
the right "ratio" of material to put in there to make the compost as quickly
as possible. I will be using oak leaves that have been chopped up by the lawn
mower, and fresh grass clippings. Seems like there is a "right" ratio to
use...like 12" of leaves, then 6" of fresh clippings, etc. You put it in the
tumbler then turn it every day or two as needed. Any comments or advice is
appreciated!
Thanks!
Eldon
