Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi Eldon,
I think the sugested ratio is about 4-5 parts of browns (straw, dried leaves,
etc.) to one part of greens (kitchen scraps, fresh grass clippings, etc.). But
that's just a general guideline. Especially with a tumbler, you can just keep
throwing stuff in and keep an eye on the results. If it looks a little dry, add
more greens. If it starts to get a little smelly and gooey, add more browns. Make
sure you keep the contents moist, but not too much so. "Wrung-out sponge" is the
metaphor I hear the most.
I have found a great source for greens, since I don't manage to prodce enough on
my own: the organic grocery. They throw out old produce, and also all the pulp
from their juicing machines. Great stuff, especially the pulp.
