This is from an old saved e-mail about the Jerry Baker tonics. The only
topic I know that starts a faster flame war than discussing PT lumber for
raised beds. I offer it for informational purposes only. It will do no good
to say I've used his all purpose tonic for years and had great success with
it. I find the "bug" tonic not as good. Jerry Baker has two tonics, one for
feeding, one for bugs and disease. You make a master mix than dilute as
needed, usually using a 20 gallon hose end sprayer.
My hint, go to the cheap store in town and buy two 2 1/2 gallon red plastic
gas containers and use then for storing your master mix. I have a different
shaped gas container for lawn mower gas, plus I have the containers marked
for the tonics.
The Jerry Baker all purpose tonic.
1 can of beer (alcoholic or non alcoholic) - yeast enzymes
1 can cola (reg, not diet) - a source of sugar
1 cup household ammonia - a source of nitrogen
1 cup apple juice - ethylene gas to help set fruit and flowers
1 cup liquid lawn food - a vitamin pill for your lawn
1 cup Murphy's oil soap (New Change) or liquid dish soap - gives your plants
a bath so it washes off pollution so photosynthesis improves also it breaks
surface tension so penetration takes place.
This makes a master mix and is applied at the rate of
Teaspoon to the quart
Tablespoon to the gallon
Cup to 20 gallons
Using a 20 gallon sprayer is the easiest way to apply the tonic, put a cup in
the jar, fill it with water and spray everything growing in sight; once every
3 weeks before 12 AM
You can use this tonic for house plants at the rate of 3 oz per gallon.
The bug tonic is
1 cup brown antiseptic mouth wash (Listerene) - a bacteria stat
1 cup Chamomile tea* - a fungus stat
1 Cup human urine (PP) - a repellent
1 Cup Murphy's oil soap
1 Cup tobacco juice** - contact poison
If a stronger potion is needed, add fruit tree spray at 25% of recommended
rate.
* Take 4 tea bags and steep in a cup of boiling water over night.
**Get a pouch of Red Mad Chewing tobacco. Reach in with your thumb and three
fingers and grab. Take what comes out and put it in the toe of a nylon
stocking and put In a pint of boiling water and leave it there. This stuff
stinks and never goes bad.
Apply as above and spray every two weeks in the evening.
