Flea Beetles and Ants Update from IN

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I seem to have triumphed over the flea beetles, at least for the
moment. I literally poured a garlic/red pepper potion over the leaves
(it had a little oil in it for stick-to-it-iveness) and they abandoned
ship. I didn't see any more for a couple of days, and yesterday when I
saw 2 of them (on a total of 6 plants) I repeated the process. The big
winds we've been having helped my cause, I think. The plants have grown
some new leaves that are (as yet, anyway), free of beetle-holes.

The ants were undeterred by my efforts with cornmeal and grits, so I
just pulled up the plant and added it to the compost. Turns out the
ants weren't nesting there after all, just chowing down. The plant was
never terribly healthy anyway, so I'm just chalking up the whole
experience to natural selection at work.
