Rather than whether it is mentioned in a particular book, I would
point out that the vast majority of gardening books, TV shows, etc.
promote raised beds for several reasons:
1. You do not walk on the beds, so soil compaction is minimized.
2. Raised beds drain easily, reducing problems caused by excess
moisture.
3. Raised beds warm up more quickly, letting you begin your season
earlier and get a longer, larger harvest. (The improved drainage is
significant here as well.)
Good luck with your garden, however you do it. People love to
discuss the advantages of this method versus that method, but in the
end the only mistake is to not garden.<g>
