Re: Watering Methods

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Hi Susan,

You might consider a drip system for your garden, which doesn't have to be
buried, and is a lot less work than watering by hand. Such systems can be
very simple or very complicated, depending on the amount of work and expense
you want to go to. The easiest is to use half-inch poly pipe to get the
water from tap to garden, and then use quarter-inch laser-drilled emitter
line, with emitters every six inches. It's basically a fancy soaker-hose
system, very easy to install.

If you want to get more fancy, you can run emitters specifically to each
plant, giving more emitters to plants that need more water. That might get a
little crazy, though, especially when it comes to storing the system for the
winter.

I found that the library had a couple of useful books to teach me about
irrigation options, so that I could go to the irrigation center knowing what
I needed. The folks at the irrigation center were helpful, too, and had all
the drip system pieces and parts right there.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Brian, if it wasn't a prank, what was it? I answered your "ridiculous,"
seemingly newbie question without mocking you. Why am I made fun of for
being helpful?
