Hi, Matt, we put down landscape fabric and anchored it with cut wire 
hangers.  Then we put crushed granite on top of it. I imagine just about 
anything on top of it would do, if you wanted to hide the landscape 
fabric. In our herb garden, we spread grass clippings on the paths. Then 
they dry and make a nice, thick mulch.
