I've been gardening for 2 seasons now in the SF manner with the usual success. now that this year's season is drawing to a close for us in the PNW, i've already started evaluating my successes and failures while looking ahead to the following season. i'd be curious to hear what crops you all swear by for the SFM when a limited garden space is an issue (looking for a high yield/SF ratio!). in particular, i'm thinking of brussel sprouts and some of the baby watermelon varieties. any comments are appreciated. also, some of the vining squashes (butternut, for example). i may as well start things off with my own favorites... beets, chard, mustard, lettuces, zuchinni, tomatoes (now i tried pruning mine and trellising them, but wasn't impressed with the yield. next year i'm caging determinate varieties!), eggplant (asian varieties: lots of little fruits!), gypsy peppers (my bells were NOT impressive!), carrots, green onions, basil, kale, collards, perpetual spinach, and more, i'm sure, which are eluding me at the moment! i wasn't impressed with bell peppers, standard eggplant varieties, cukes, potatoes, garlic or shallots (too long of a growing season for small yield!). i thought i'd also mention that my garden is 4' X 14'...and i feel has been very fruitful. can't wait to hear from all of you!! thyme
